This is a fund set up to support Black women working on the front lines of the movement for Black liberation. Frankly, if we had all been listening to them, I probably would not have needed to make the video I made this week, because our current political situation would look very different than it does right now. A word about my video – I had had the idea for this song immediately following the election, but I wasn’t able to finish it until last Wednesday evening. I have been losing sleep over the situation with North Korea, and I found that writing this song helped me to find some serenity. I originally imagined this being sort of a slow, obnoxious rock ballad…but then I played drum set in the orchestra pit for the musical Chicago, and I decided it would sound better in sort of a vaudeville big band arrangement. So as you’re listening, imagine it sounds more like this:
