Here is the transcription of my most recent video blog:

(And here’s the audio on AnchorFM)

Hey friends, it’s Queen Mab, and I’m here to talk to you today about National Novel Writing Month, which starts tomorrow. So I participated last year, and I did make it to 50,000 words. However, I did not finish my novel. And this story is important to me, and the characters are important to me, and I really would like to finish it.

However, as I have said in every video that I have made for the past week…I am tired. And I’m trying to figure out what I could do this month that would move me forward in my story without stressing me out too much, especially since I have this video challenge going on, and I also have a play that I need to write, because I am locked in to do it in January at Tucson Fringe.

So what I’m going to do today is I’m going to post an excerpt of the very first chapter, and I’m gonna record a video of me reading it, and I’m also going to post it on my website so you can take a look at it if you would like. And if you like it, please tell me, because if I hear that people like it, that might make me want to work on it more. And if you don’t like it, keep it to yourself! [laughs] I’m just kidding. No, I’m not.

Anyways, a word about this book…it’s called…or, its working title is, “The Three Fleas,” and that is the name of a tavern in an imaginary city in an imaginary world called Anad. And the way that this got started was that in 2017, I was driving home from Los Angeles, and I stopped in Dana Point, and I saw that they had those streets that have names like “Street of the Green Lantern” and “Street of the Amber Lantern,” and for some reason, I got really obsessed with this. I think street names might be one of those things that my neurodiverse brain likes to get obsessed with.

But anyway, I got really obsessed with that, and it grew into this story, and I wanted it to be a fantasy world where music is very important in the society. I wondered what that would look like. And I also wanted to create a world where being in a marching band is like, a viable career [laughs], okay? I don’t know quite how else to describe it.

So if that sounds like your jam, I invite you to check out the next video that I’m gonna post, and I am gonna post it today, since I am a day behind. And I hope you enjoy it. And if you’d like to see more of my content, you can visit queenmabmusic.com. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe, and I’ll see you a little later with my reading of my story. Bye!
