Well, so much for doing one video every week. To be honest, I think that pace was a bit much for me…so…from now on, it’s going to be a video every…whenever I feel like it. I’ll probably still post Mondays at 12pm PT, since that seems to be a time when people are slacking off at work and looking at social media. For those of you that read this, thanks for being patient with me.

This week, I’ve recorded a song that was one of the first I ever wrote. I had the idea for this one in 2009, but I wasn’t able to write it down until summer 2014. I wish I had a better answer for why it took me five years to finally get it out. Maybe someday I will do a long, self-indulgent post analyzing the reasons I had writers block for so long…but not today.

I still need to update the domain name for this website. I’ve purchased “queenmabmusic.com”…I just don’t know how to change it – or, more importantly, how to get “gbera.net” to redirect to it. I also still haven’t explained why I am now “Queen Mab” instead of “gberá” – so I’ll do it now. First of all, most people were pronouncing it “Jibera,” which was driving me crazy. Second of all, I was concerned about the cultural appropriation aspects of using this name. Even though “gberá” was a name given to me when I studied in Ghana in 2007, I still wasn’t sure it was right to use it in this context.

Speaking of cultural appropriation, I’m also having some second thoughts about the videos for No Te Quejes and Hometown since they feature dancing luchadoras. I am sure there are folks out there who would say I have no right to use images from Mexican culture, and I should delete the videos. There are probably other folks who would say the videos are entertaining, and there is nothing wrong with them. I agree with both sides…and I am not sure what to do. I will continue to think about a potential solution to this dilemma.
