I’m nervous about posting this one, because I really don’t want any of my friends to think that it’s about them. It’s really just about the frustrations that come with being a single person in a society organized around couples and people with kids (I don’t use the word “families” because I resent the fact that “family” always means “small children.” You don’t have to have small children or be a small child to be a part of a family!).

This was another song that I wrote for the Songwriter’s Game. The suggested title was “Pick a Name.” I decided to use it as a lyric instead of a title. The phrase “Friends are a bunch of bastards,” is from the book One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. I tried to read it in high school, but I didn’t finish it. The picture of the author on the back cover creeped me out so much that I folded a piece of computer paper in thirds and taped it over his face…BUT…I still like his writing, and I’ve recently written another song based on a short story of his.

…so does my new video offend you? Or can you relate? I’m still taking requests for future videos…feel free to leave me a comment if there’s a subject you’d like me to sing about!
