This was one of three songs that I was trying to finish before the end of the year. I thought I’d record what I had of all three and then post it as like a “preview of coming attractions,” or maybe just as motivation to finish the damn songs. Of course, when I sat down to think about recording this one, I managed to finish it…
There is a lyric in this song I’m still on the fence about: “I get so tired/of these “laid-back” and “sarcastic” blokes/Looking for someone/Who will laugh at their terrible jokes.” I wrote another version: “I get so tired/of these dudes who all love the outdoors/Looking for someone/Who will laugh when they’re acting like bores.” I’m not sure which one is better…because let’s be real, no one on this side of the Atlantic says “blokes”…but I really like the line about terrible jokes…because sadly, I’ve lost count of how many dating profiles I’ve read that in…
